Summer Haircut Styles That Actually Beat the Heat
Encino summers are no joke. By the time June rolls around, it's already pushing 95 on Ventura Blvd, and by August we're well past that. This time of year we get a lot of guys coming in just saying "take it shorter" — which is a totally valid strategy, but it helps to know what you're actually asking for before you sit down in the chair.
The cuts that hold up in the heat
A high fade is probably the single most popular warm-weather request we see. It takes the weight off the sides and back completely, which is where most guys feel the heat the most. You can keep the top longer and textured if you want something with personality, or go shorter on top too for a cleaner, almost maintenance-free look. Either way, a fresh fade every three to four weeks keeps it looking intentional rather than grown-out.
Buzz cuts and crew cuts are having a real moment right now, and honestly they make a lot of sense for summer — especially for guys who are active, in and out of the water, or just don't want to think about their hair. A crew cut gives you a little length on top to work with if you want it, while a buzz is about as low-maintenance as it gets. Both are easy to do in one visit and easy to maintain between cuts.
If you're not ready to go short all over, a textured crop with a fade is a good middle ground. It keeps some length on top but the fade removes the bulk that makes you feel hot and heavy in the summer. A little product goes a long way with this one — and in the Valley heat, less product is usually better anyway.
A few things worth knowing before you come in
Bring a photo if you have something specific in mind. That's genuinely the fastest way to get on the same page — it cuts down on back-and-forth and makes it easier for us to tell you upfront if a cut is going to work with your hair type. Not every cut looks the same on every head, and we'd rather have that conversation before we start than after.
If you're dealing with a sweaty scalp or just want something that feels like a full reset after a long week, the MVP Experience is worth adding on. It includes a massaging shampoo, hot steamed towel, and a neck and ear trim — it's the kind of thing that feels especially good in the middle of a heat wave. Walk in or check in online at our Encino location and just ask about it when you get here.
One more thing: summer is also when a lot of guys let their beard situation get a little out of hand. If you're getting a haircut anyway, a beard trim while you're in the chair is an easy add and it makes the whole look sharper without much extra time.
