Kids Haircuts at Encino Men's Haircuts
Kids' haircuts have a reputation for being stressful, and honestly, some of that reputation is earned. A squirmy five-year-old in a barber chair is not anyone's idea of a relaxing Tuesday. But a lot of what makes it stressful is just not knowing what to expect — for the parent or the kid. So here's what actually happens when you bring your son in to see us at 17200 Ventura Blvd.
What the visit looks like
We keep it simple. Kids' haircuts here are straightforward — a clean cut, sized to the kid, without a lot of fuss. If your son has a picture of what he wants, bring it. If he doesn't know what he wants (or doesn't care, which is equally common), a quick "keep it neat" or "just clean up the sides" is enough to go on. Our barbers ask a couple of questions before they start so nobody ends up surprised.
Younger kids — say, under seven — usually do best when the whole thing moves at a reasonable pace without a lot of stopping and starting. We've seen enough wiggly kids that it doesn't throw anyone off. If your child is nervous about it, you're welcome to stay close and talk them through it. That part's up to you.
Walk-ins are always welcome, or you can check in online before you leave the house so the wait is shorter when you get here. Either way works.
A few things that actually help
If there's a specific style in mind, a photo on your phone is worth more than any description. "Like that kid from that movie" rarely translates the way you'd hope. A screenshot does.
Timing matters more than people think. If you're coming in on a Saturday afternoon, expect it to be busy — that's true of every barbershop on Ventura Blvd. Weekday mornings tend to move faster. If you've got flexibility, that's when to use it.
And if your kid has had a bad haircut experience somewhere else and is coming in tense about it, just mention that when you walk in. It's useful information, and it changes how the barber approaches the first few minutes.
Kids' haircuts are listed on our services page if you want to check pricing before you come in — no surprises at the register.
